Texas already has some of the highest property taxes in the United States, and business owners across our state are feeling the burden. Defend the Dream PAC was created by Texans who believe we must take action to protect our businesses, our property, and our financial future.
We are a grassroots, Texas-based political action committee dedicated to property tax relief, fiscal responsibility, and supporting leaders who champion lower taxes and fair policy.
Make a Contribution
Every dollar counts. Your contribution strengthens advocacy efforts across Texas, helping protect your property rights and defend the Texas Dream.
Hotel & Motel Owners: If you own or operate hotels and motels in Texas, we encourage you to consider a $10 per room contribution.
By donating, you confirm you are a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, at least 18 years of age, and contributing your own funds—not from a corporation, union, foreign source, federal contractor, or another person.
Texas Property Tax Bill of Rights
Texas property taxes shouldn’t feel like a moving target. We’re advocating for simple, reasonable guardrails that protect property owners from runaway assessments—and make the system more predictable, transparent, and fair.
Freeze Assessments
Freeze all property tax assessments of existing properties.
Fewer Assessments
New assessments every 3 years.
Cap Tax Increases
Cap Property Tax Increases every 3 years to 2.5% or CPI whichever one is lower.
Correct Over-Assessment
Properties assessed since 2018 above the cap will have their assessed values frozen until they meet the established cap (lower of 2.5% or CPI).
Annual Appeals for Disaster Areas
The appraisal district must hear appeals every year to lower values for properties affected by natural disasters, fire or any other damage or calamity that affects the occupation and or operation of said property.
These reforms are not radical. They’re common-sense protections that keep taxation from turning into punishment.
